Tivo vs. Cable
This can be summed up in two words: Tivo loses!
Okay, so here's the problem with a bit more detail: Charter Communications, in all their brilliance, decided to completely rearrange nearly all of their channels ("to accomodate the new HD channels"). This is all well and good (well, not good for us), but now Tivo doesn't know what channel is on what number. So instead of recording hockey, it unknowingly records Programa en EspaƱol.
I called Charter to complain, and as I suspected, they can't do anything but apologize, which, granted, they did. My next step was to contact Tivo, which I did online. After informing them that Charter has completely changed their lineup, I was met with a confirmation message saying they will have a technician work on it in the next 5-7 days. Wow. This renders our Tivo nearly useless for a week!
I don't blame you, Tivo. We still love you. But this does make it tempting to switch from our beloved Tivo to a generic, cable company-provided DVR, free of any and all bells and whistles. (And, Tivo, you have a lot of 'em!) But that would be rewarding the offending party (Charter) and punishing the innocent (Tivo).
So I guess we just wait this one out.
